What is the best thing to put all of my pictures off of my computer on ;in case my computer ever crashes?

I have serval pictures that I have taken over the years on my computer. All of these pictures I have spent a great deal of time editing, and putting in order by album of how old my kids are in the pictures. Now my computer is running slow, and needs to go get checked, however I want to save my pictures first,is there anything out there that will hold all of my pictures off of my computer, just in case they happen to get deleted or my computer ever crashes? Take in mind that these are lots of pictures,so I would need something that could store lots of memory. Thanks for your help! What is the best thing to put all of my pictures off of my computer on ;in case my computer ever crashes?
1. at Costco, and other stores, there are external hard drives that connect by USB or either USB or Firewire.

They cost between $79 and $399.

Bought a Lacie 250Gb that is both USB and Firewire for PCs, Macs, and works great on my Linux systems, for $89.95 at Costco.

plug it in, open the filesystem screen, drag folders over to it!

2. More permanent solution is to save everything in CDroms or DVDroms.

I have clients who film 200 to 500 Gb of nature movies for Discovery Channel and NatGeo cable.

They buy and store the raw video footage for years on huge 500 Gb external drives, up on shelves. Just too much to put onto DVDroms.

I prefer firewire for security and speed.

HTH!

PS. I don't have those problems like you mentioned, about the systems slowing down, because we switched everything to http://www.mepis.org and are totally free of the Microsoft million malware, virus, trojans, extortion plans. What is the best thing to put all of my pictures off of my computer on ;in case my computer ever crashes?
First select all your pictures, right click properties and see how much space will be needed to backup your files.

You can store about 4.3gb on each dvd and 680mb or so on a regular cd depending on which one you have.

Then buy black discs and drag and drop them into a program like nero and copy them to your blank discs...
I burn mine to CD's all of the time. I burn the same pictures on a couple of CD's in case something happen to one of them. You can also take the CD to a photo shop like WalMart photo and have the pictures made into paper pictures. I did that with some of mine. It cost 28 cents each and they are on Kodak paper. They turned out really good. Now I can save them perminently. I can put them in an album or my purse or where ever I want. If you use Picassas on the computer you can put the pictures in a collage and print out a picture of alot of pictures all at once and frame it. You can also go to your local library if you don't have a printer at home and print the pictures off on regular paper. It is all up to you about what you want to do.
Hi. I use CD's normally, or a flash drive/thumb drive.

A friend of mine has hers printed by using Kodak.com

Check out my blog at www.garyfarnam.org
A spare hard drive. CD's are next best, but will degenerate over time.
Get a flash drive with 1 or 2 gigabytes or megabytes.

How do I open my computer's case? And where is the PCI slot located?

I have a flatscreen DELL computer. How do I open my computer's case? And where is the PCI slot located?
usually take off the 2 screws at the right hand side on the case and push the pannel back.

the pci slots are located on the motherboard, usuallt a cream color.

kennyHow do I open my computer's case? And where is the PCI slot located?
This all depends on your PC Model. We can't say anything until we have your PC Model.
As the previous answerer said, we need information on your specific model. I have an Dell B110 and can open it by pushing a button-type thing in the back of the system and pulling the case backward. You can look in your Dell manual for more information on your specific model.

My Dell system's PCI slots are located at the bottom-left portion of my motherboard.

in the new computer case. it worked but the monitor did not want to show anything it said not connected. but the monitor works on another computer and it was connected. so i un plug everything check everything and now the computer only turn on for 10 second or so and then shut right off help please. any directionI just took my motherboard and every thing in my computer to switch to another computer case i plug everything?
Don't unplug EVERYTHING. If you know the monitor works then the problem is probably your video card. You should get some sort of image on your monitor even if the proper drivers are not installed. First determine if you are using a video card that is built into the motherboard or if you have a video card that is in a slot. The slot could be a PCI, AGP or PCI-express. If it's a video chip on the motherboard, try to install a new video card in an agp, pci or pci-express slot then connect the monitor to that. (you should at least have a pci slot) If you already trying to use a PCI, AGP or PCI-express card, replace the video card and see what happens.I just took my motherboard and every thing in my computer to switch to another computer case i plug everything?
    Probably is the Video Card.

    - If the Video Card is integrated to the Motherboard it may be damaged.

    - If the Video Card is goes to a ';slot';, verify it's properly conected to the motherboard and the Power Supply (if necessary)

    - Also check the RAM sticks to be properly conected.

    Hope this helps

What do I need to take into account when buying a brand new computer case?

This is my motherboard if that makes a difference EVGA X58 SLI LE Version Motherboard 141-BL-E757What do I need to take into account when buying a brand new computer case?
    Hi:

Well, there are several things to take into account:

    - The size of your MoBo, either it is ATX, eATX, mATX, etc.

    - The size of your GPU since some cases doesn't have enough room to handle some big ones.

    - The quantity of internal devices so you have the right airflow and space.

    - Depending on how many hard drives you have, then you'll have to look at how much drive bays the case has.

I think those are some of the main aspects, but there are actually several others. What do I need to take into account when buying a brand new computer case?
basically make sure matches the size u need for everything u have now (drive bays, power supply, motherboard) and if it has good airflow (number of fans / how big they are / where they r placed)

What computer case would you recommend?

I'm looking for a full ATX tower with black interior. Something like the Silverstone RV01 or Antec 1200. It must not have a front door.

Also, I don't want to paint the interior myself. What computer case would you recommend?
I've built several computers using Antec cases. I've never been disappointed with any of them.

The 1200 has excellent ventilation and cooling. What computer case would you recommend?
The coolermaster HAF 933 is a very good case because it has a lot of airflow that are about 20 cm and bigger. Coolermaster haas very good cases.

Can you cover your computer case in cloth?

While i was at a recent LAN gaming day i noticed one guy's computer case (Just the sides and the top) was covered in cloth. I was just wondering if this is common and how to do this type of mod. Also, how do you make the holes for vents? Can you cover your computer case in cloth?
Probably not the best idea because cloth is an insulator and would tend to keep heat inside of the case, as well as draw in more dust to the vents and fans. Presumably you would just cut holes for the vents....Can you cover your computer case in cloth?
Covering with cloth is not a good idea, as processor gets heated up quickly and it needs air circulation inside the computer CASE.

And the processor will work faster when the temperature is less....so lot of people use 2 fans for processor ..

Micro tower is the smallest, mini / midi tower are both ok, also its cheaper to by a case with power supply installed. depending on what hardware you have installed as to what power supply in the case you need. I would go for around a 500 to 650 watt power supply, can run more hardware is the system then.

    COMPAQ PRESARIO CQ5210Y DESKTOP PC

    has a Part Number 5188-2622

250-watt (max) power supply (Zinfandel), Bestec ATX-250-12V)

Since it is ATX, you can replace it with another ATX size power supply with higher wattage. It is a standard size.I have a cq5210y and they say the computer case is a ';mini-tower'; will a 400w+ power supply fit?
The wattage doesn't matter. On the power supply specs it should say what type of case it will fit. If not, try to find one that does. If all else fails, find a local computer hardware store and compare sizes. Plus, they might be able to tell you ahead of time if a particular power supply will fit.

What are the guidelines for opening up a computer case/tower?

i want to add more memory to my computer but i dont want to hand it to someone and let them do it because i dont want to may 50 bucks. So i want t do it myself but my friend told me that there are some guidelines before i open the computer. So I was wondering if someone can give me those guidelines so i dont mess up my computer. thanksWhat are the guidelines for opening up a computer case/tower?
just make sure to wear anti-static wrist strap or if you don't have one, ground yourself by touching any unpainted metal object to discharge any static electricity in your hands. make sure too that you work on a non-carpeted surface so that any rubbing won't ionize any part of your body. wood is a nice work table. What are the guidelines for opening up a computer case/tower?
Static electricity is going to be your biggest foe. Generally, you can safely open it without worrying about anything, but I do know that you can fry some crucial components on a system if you discharge static into them..

So, touch the doorknob or something metal to get rid of that problem before you open it up.

Also, make sure you are not using a magnetized screw driver to pop it open.

When you install memory, it should go in relatively smoothly. If you are forcing anything in the case to go somewhere, you will break your computer. RAM slots usually have tabs that you need to move to make sure the memory goes in properly. Look at your existing RAM to see how that works.

Other than that, you should be fine.
The only way touching a doorknob (as Pete said) would help is if the doorknob is grounded. You want to drain any possible static charge by touching GROUNDED bare metal.

A magnetic screwdriver will only really bother if you get too close to the hard drive (or any floppy disks) since most aren't highly magnetized (super magnets). but a non-magnetized screwdriver IS best to work around your computer. Oh, did you know that most (if not all) hard drives actually have 2-4 super magnets in them anyway? They're part of the head positioning mechanism.

While you have it open, also watch for any dust building up, especially on the CPU heatsink, and remove it. You should do this check every few months anyway, depending on how dusty the computer's environment is.
Turn off the computer, leave it plugged in but TURN OFF at the wall. This will keep the case grounded. Open the side and keep yourhand on the metal of the case to keep grounded. then install or do whatever you want to do

REMEMBER TO TURN OFF AT THE WALL SOCKET - this isolates the power but keps the earth connection
    1. Unplug

    2. If it's a standard case, unscrew the side panel and slide it off.

    3. Touch some metal to discharge yourself.

    4. Put memory in and put it all back together.

*Note about #2, I have no idea what computer you have.. so some computer cases can be ridiculously difficult and non logical to open the first time. That usually doesn't happen anymore with newer computers.
crucial.com has step by step instructions on their site. but just be sure you're grounded so static electricity doesn't cause a problem. the install guides are on the right side of this page in a drop down menu. http://www.crucial.com/store/listmodule.鈥?/a>

Most full tower cases can do that but look at the CoolerMaster HAF 932-RC ...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a> I think you will find it's what you want. My son has it and loves it...its a bit too heavy for me! I couldn't lift it fully loaded!

  • Transferring PC Hardware to New Computer Case ?

I have an HP Pavilion Desktop which I recently upgraded with new hardware. However the space in this case is very cramped. Can I transfer all of my hardware into a new case like the ';Antec 900 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case'; ??? If I buy the Zalman 9900 CPU Cooler, would it fit inside the Antec 900 ?Transferring PC Hardware to New Computer Case ?
You should check out the Antec 902 (Nine Hundred Two).

You can do that. Just remember to check if the case supports the size of your motherboard.Transferring PC Hardware to New Computer Case ?
Yes, all of the CPU coolers are designed to fit ATX cases and of course you can change the cases, cause all of those parts are removable which are in the desktop computers, you just have to:

    1.Unplug all of the wires.

    2.Remove hardwares.

3.Put them into the new case like that:

    a) first attach CPU, its cooler and RAM into the mobo (motherboard) outside the case.

    b) now put the mobo into the case, screw it down and install the GPU.

    c) then install PSU and connect the cables

    Hope that helps!

MSI K9VGM-V is a Micro ATX motherboard, so the casing won't fit.

You will need a Micro ATX casing.

How do you protect your files in case computer crashes?

how do you protect your files in case computer crashes?

at work we have a server back up every nite. of course i can't afford that at home.

my computer crashed and i lost everything so i'm trying to avoid this mess from happening again.

one friend suggested saving files to memory stick every day but i'm just looking for other ideas too.How do you protect your files in case computer crashes?
Well I personally do it on memory stick. How do you protect your files in case computer crashes?
Partition your hard drive. I have a 500 gig hard drive. 200 gigs are on C, where Windows is, and 300 are on D. If you save everything and install everything on D, and windows crashes, you only lose what is on C. You can reinstall windows from the ground up and still have everything on your computer.

Also, get an external hard drive and save everything to it once a week or month or so, depending on how much you add new stuff to your comptuer.
you make you hardware in to 2 part , by the time when you want to save any important file ,you not gone loosed . after your computer crashed ,you may need to reinstall you computer , at that time you just reinstall the general part of your hardware when you had been used for Internet ,the other part that you have all your document is save
Firstly you need to prioritise. Which files are the most important? Operating system ones are on a CD/DVD already so you don't need to worry about them. Personal settings are fairly important but again, they can be put back. Personal documents should really be saved to CD or DVD and then kept away from your PC. If you can keep them away from the house in which the PC resides is even better as that way they are fire protected.

If you have an extensive collection of browser bookmarks then (if you use Firefox as I do) you can save them using a plug in. Look for 'Foxmarks' on the Firefox add-ins page (got to 'Tools' - 'Add-ons' from your Firefox menu toolbar). Subscribe to this (it's free) and save all your bookmarks this way. You can also load them on to your work PC and synchronise them safely.

E-mail is more tricky. Possibly the easiest way is to save any important e-mails as text files and load them onto a CD as before. I'd do the same with any addresses stored on the PC.

I wouldn't place a great deal of faith in USB memory sticks. They are fantastic little tools but they can break, get lost or stolen and then you are back to square one.

The other way of saving your data is a bit more expensive. You could purchase an external hard drive and then use a proper software back up program to copy everything (including all those personal settings) from your PC. However, I'd still be inclined to save personal documents onto a CD just be sure :-)

    Hope that helps.

    Kevan
    Put your files on discs!
If its small files, text, photos, projects... I suggest you send it in an attahcment to your self in an email, Yahoo Email is the best because you can view you attachments in one click. I have attachments from 2002!

    Burn to CD,

Best way I think which worked for me..:

Buy a cheap External Hard drive, and keep it connected to your computer, and everytime you save something save it on the external hard drive.. saves you time, so you dont have to do any additional work, and it keeps your actually computer space empty for good speed!

    BestBuy.Com Good Drives!

    NewEgg.Com

    CircuitCity.Com

    Good Luck!
    burn your data onto dvd
Memory Sticks are the cheapest way for doing it, especially they are not that expensive at all these days.

don't save it ';every day';, save it whenever you have complete something meaningful or important, Backup right away.
you must first create a backup file, when the computer crashes it tries to save your priorities.
if you don't know how to partition your computer, you either save those files in a memory stick (handy %26amp; less weight, you can bring it wherever you want to). you only make a back up of those files or save files when it is really important to do so, like if you have edited some of it or adding some info on those files.

but if you know how to partition your PC, you can make the back up or save those files in one of the partition like D or E or F, depending on your choice. C partition is for the operating system, and when computer crashes, mostly you will only reinstall the system which is at C. or have an external hard drive. there are a lot of ways to do that. if you're using Norton 360, it will do the job on your scheduled date to do the backup. or Drive Image. Drive Image is free to download.
There are several ways. One is memory stick USB, another is burn CD/DVD on regular basis and the other is an external hard drive hooked to the USB and transfer a copy of data to it on a regular basis, Disk dirves are fairly inexpensive and small enough to carry in the laptop case if you travel.
You could open a gmail account and keep sending files to your email account as attachments, its the safest way because its online so you can access it anywhere without depending on Hardware.

Other alternative is external hardware like USB Flash drives, USB sticks. They are all pretty affordable.
Create rescue disks. Most computers come preinstalled with rescue (back up) software anyway.

    -Lisa
    u neeed a new compter.
save it on a disk save the files whenever your done with them or get a software spyware so it wont crash at all u have 2 renew it tough every month and it 30 dolars

What do people look for in a good computer case?

    Ummmm ... a decent motherboard ... a CPU ... some Ram ... a DVD burner ........

Ok seriously .... good PSU (power supply unit) these days nothing under 400w (500-550 is common) and plenty of room to help cooling .... the bigger the case the more room and less cooling fans are needed making the whole PC quieter

You then look at ';tooless'; entry and mounting meaning no screwdriver needed to get into the thing or to mount drives etc.

Ventilation so the air that is drawn in through the front can easily pass over warm components and be ducted out through the back

In short ... like most components ... buy the best you can affordWhat do people look for in a good computer case?
It must be able to take the knocks of Normal Life!

I use memory Neoprene Sleeves for my laptops.

It's Like a Wet Suit material but thicker and absorbs knocks and Bangs from Impacts!(Then returns to its normal shape-unblemished)What do people look for in a good computer case?
A good computer case will have a few fans, a good power supply, 480 and up, if you plan on running an extreme game gear box you probably want 550 +, the new rigs that go with dual or quad grafix cards will require 500 to 600 watt power supply. Options for front panel sound connections and USB ports, expansion bays etc.
Go to a reliable computer shop in your area, ask for a knowledgeable sales person, tel him/her what you want to do with your computer and I'm sure you will find the answer yourself.
The most important factors for me are sturdiness, size (not too big, not too small), room for multiple hard drives, and the biggest factor, one 120mm fan in front, and one 120mm fan in back. It doesn't matter if the fans are included, since I usually replace them, anyway. Air cooling a computer requires fans; the bigger, the better.

Antec is really the best brand, is you take into account that they don't cost a fortune. Lian Li is slightly better, but at double to triple the price, they should be. I just refuse to pay more money for a case than I paid for my processor, so I always buy Antec.
When I bought my case, I looked at the following things:

    Price

    Steel chassis

    3+ fan slots

    Large size

I found the perfect case for me. It has two 120mm slots, and an 80mm slot on the side with a cylinder for extra cooling on the CPU. I wanted steel because it is more durable than aluminum, but also heavier. I like having a heavy, durable chassis. It's fairly large, but not huge... just perfect for me. It had ample room to work with inside when I was building it, and it has plenty of room to breathe and keep cool. I have my AMD CPU overclocked from 1.8 GHz to 2.4 GHz with no temperature rise, even under full load. It's a black Antec. At the time, it was $50 total with shipping. Now it's a little more.

    http://www.techonweb.com/products/productdetail.aspx?id=B48385
durablility,, storage and usefulness, the amount of slots for different things,,, and the abiltiy to hook cooling units,, also options of room for power supplies,, and just over all stability and looks,, in a nutshell,, you want a nice case that will accomidate any motherboard, you can throw at it,, fit any power supply comfotably w/ out hitting anything,, have plenty of cooling hookups ( for fans,, but one can create, w/ a hand tool,, though)

one for plenty of slots for cdrom, dvd or media readers(minimum of 3 ) ,, plenty of room and slots for hddrives,,(minimum of 2) and just over all good looks and features, AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE
if the motherboard and drives will fit easily and still have good ventalation and still have workable room
Heat is a killer! Heat inside a computer case causes many problems. The best material to support case cooling is aluminum. Steel is stronger, but aluminum will help keep your system cooler.

Same with a small case. Harder to get air flow, a loser to work inside of.

I mean for Tigerdirect, I usually buy the coolermasters. The Centurion is not only a mid tower, it comes in 3 colors, and it has fans where other cases don't, and they are out of the way.

I have been using these cases, ever since I saw the temp drops, seriously.
    Best case ever! for $54.99

  • Does amperage matter when replacing a computer case fan that is mother board monitered?

It matters a little, for standard grade fans, a small change either way will make little difference, but extreme performance fans, of the ';delta black label'; class or similar, generally draw more current than is acceptable for a motherboard port.

High power monitored fans would be used with an adapter that draws power from a molex connector, and passes the tacho signal to the motherboard.

Choosing a standard type case fan, not specified for high CFM, you would generally not need to be too concerned by actual ratings.Does amperage matter when replacing a computer case fan that is mother board monitered?
Yes amperage matters. You don't want to install a fan that draws more amps because the circuitry won't handle it. A smaller fan that draws fewer amps may not move enough air.

Best answer is to locate the fan that is intended to replace the one you're removing.Does amperage matter when replacing a computer case fan that is mother board monitered?
    No

Is there a way to keep an eye on the temp. in my computer case?

software, usb devise or somehow in the computers system itself. i dont know the whole bios thing i dont even know to get to it.Is there a way to keep an eye on the temp. in my computer case?
Please explain your question better. What OS do you use?

What computer case should i get?

I am looking for a computer case because i am building a computer from scratch and i really like alienware cases and something that is good for gaming motherboards to fit in and all the cpu and gpu and crap.My budget is around 80$ for a case. What computer case should i get?
Get the Cooler Master CM690, it does a great job for it's price. However if you can find an Antec 900 for $80 then get that instead. The 900 is possibility the most popular gaming case in the market. What computer case should i get?
Man I hate it when people bring in computers with fried video cards for repair. The manufacturers will not honor warranties for video cards that were damaged by heat. Putting extra fans does not help if the air is going the wrong way COOLING IS EVERYTHING!

Check it out: Two months ago a man came in with a system which had a custom case, looked good on the out side but the video was smoked; again; a $1500.00 video card was smoked! How is that possible if it had 6 fans in it? Once the side of the computer was closed the air flow was circulated AWAY from the video card!

Each case is designed with certain expansion cards installed and not others. In the case of over heating the hard drive gets affected first occasionally locking up then the video is next about 30 degrees later; once the video reaches it thermal limit; the magic smoke escapes and that is not a good thing.

Check with the video card manufacturer and what they suggest is what you do, unless you have deep pockets with a lot of coin.

Second is your power supply if your power supply will not cover your hard drive and motherboard and video card and DVD your wasting your time and money.

Serious gaming systems require a 600w to 1500w power supply system. With massive cooling!! More powerful than your vacuume cleaner therefore DON';T PUT YOUR SYSTEM ON THE FLOOR.

    Guess why. :)

How do I hook up external speakers to my computer (special case)?

I have two external speakers from a stereo I no longer use that I would like to hook up to my laptop (ideally, I'd like to easily switch the speakers between my laptop and TV but one step at a time.) The output of each speaker is simply bare wires (by bare I mean they are insulated but there is no adapter or anything.) Is there some kind of adapter I can solder these wires to in order to plug them into the audio output of my laptop? How do I hook up external speakers to my computer (special case)?
Go ask the geek at your local Radio Shack. That would probably be your best bet. You risk damaging both sides though if you screw up I'm guessing.

How big are the speakers? Are they powered separately? The laptop is unlikely going to be able to power them by itself.

Which way should computer case fan blow?

I had install 2 80mm fans (side by side) at the side of my case (just beside my graphic card). Should I set them all blow in or out? Or 1 in and 1 out? I need suggestions. Thanks a lot.Which way should computer case fan blow?
They should blow out. If you had them on opposing sides of the case, one blowing in and one blowing out would create a nice flow, but not if they are next to each other.Which way should computer case fan blow?
The general idea is for air to be taken in from the front and blown out from behind. If you have placed your fans behind the case (where all your ports are), the air needs to blowing out.

If you have a vent at the top, you could also place a fan there to blow out the heat.
Both of them should blow out.

    Why?

If fans blow in, that will suck in tons of dirt, dust, and debris which could ground or short out your motherboard or other components. While it may not happen immediately, it could slowly lead to your PC frying out over time.

Fans need to blow out, and have adequate air flow to allow it to draw cool air in from another direction, so there is a continual air flow to cool your components.
both should blow into the case your case vents should handle all incoming air displacement
release all obstructions and create a air flow circuit .If you can remove the the band(wich cover the cd location on the front of the case) wich is near your dvd-cd.Put the both fans to exhaust eject the air from your case(the dust who came from the room must be exhausted outside from case) .
I prefer you to make both of them blow out ....

Because the graphics card generates to much hot air inside it's better to consider removing the hot air out....

How do i paint the inside of my computer case??

i wanna paint the inside of my case and dont wanna go an expensive way like airbrush or automotive shop.....so what kind of spary can paint would be good for inside of case and how to i prep it....i also want to do same for outside of case. Color for outside i want it to be red and for the inside..blackHow do i paint the inside of my computer case??
Your computer case is just like a car. To prep it, remove the inners of the computer. You may want to take off the paint that is already on it. Paint thinner can do this, apply the thinner around the case, after while the paint will peel off. After doing this get rough sandpaper and sand the case inside and out. Get a cloth to wipe off the dust of the case. I guess if you are going to paint the inside of your case black, get a premier that is gray and spray it. You may want to get masking tape, this can be bought at the hardware store, and mask out the some of the areas that is the outside of the case. After the premier drys, sand the premier with a softer sandpaper. Then, spray on the black paint. You may want to spray on a couple of coats, it depends what you are going for. Between each coat you should sand it down because of limps and run off. Do the same on the outside of the case. For a premier for red, I suggest pink or light red. After everything is dried, I would spray on a clear cost, so it would shin. I suggest duplicolor paint.

I don't recommend you to paint the inside of your case black because it is hard to see if the inside is dirty. And painting the inside will attract a lot of dust. How do i paint the inside of my computer case??
Any spray pain will do. Remove everything from inside your case, dust it and clean it. Then paint it!. You will want to remove both sides of the case, as well as the front. On the front is usually a bunch of connectors that go to the motherboard. If you are unfamiliar with computers, I would recommend taking lots of pictures before you take things apart, so you will know where they go later on.

Other than that, you don't have to use any special paints or materials for it.

    http://thebestcasescenario.com/

you can go to that link and find out a lot of information about computer case modding and maybe some ideas and how-to's
i dont understand why you want to paint the inside of your comp. case but just open it up.
uh why? its not going to better its preformance and it's not going to get you the ladies
use something good like rust-o-leum, or krylon. also ya might wanna coat the outside with some clear also. helps protect the finish. spray very lightly, take your time and spray multiple coats. modding cases is a fun way to personalize your case. don't forget to add stickers i.e. amd athlon, intel inside etc. like art, it is a personal form of expression. lol excuse my clear-case lmao.

depends what your case allows and how many connections for fans you have on your motherboard,, also you can get fans w/ connections that connect to your power supply adapters,, all in all though it depends on those two factors, oh and a third,,how much you motherboard and power supplies can handle for watage as well,,,, you can drill screw holes anywhere in a case and mount a fan,, as long as you have proper ventilation,, if you dont,, you can use a drill, and drill holes all over where you will place the fan, to create a vent,,, IF YOUR COMP IS STILL UNDER WARRENTY THOUGH ,, DONT OPEN CASE OR DO THIS , IT WILL VOID YOUR WARRENTY AND MOST WARRENTIES DONT COVER ANY ALTERATIONS, NOT SPECIFIED OR AUTHORIZED BY MANUFACTURER !!!

Just read the product descriptions to find out which one you need.I bought a new computer case that has 3 fans but mobo only has one hook up?
The fans that came with my case use a molex connection but the new ones i bought connect to the mobo. But the did come with a converter that converted it to a molex connection. So now i can run 4 fans from 1 molex connection since they clip into each other.

Do a search on eBay for it. It would most probably be dead cheap, just search something like ';fan converter molex'; in all categories. You should get what you need.
if your motherboard only has 1 3pin fan header, (which i find very weird) your cpu fan will be using it,

Which way round are you meant to attatch a fan to the computer case?

the fans are suppose to FLOW in from the front and out from everywhere else

so if you put the fan ni teh front, blows in

if you put the fan in the back, blow outWhich way round are you meant to attatch a fan to the computer case?
If it is the only case fan you have, it must go in the back and be set to exhaust from the case. All cases are designed so air comes in the front, goes over the components and heat sinks, and exits the back. The power supply is also set up to aid in this, and both fans pull air in the front, and push it out the back.
If you only have 1 fan then it should be blowing out of the case, if you have 2 or more you can have them sucking and blowing........sounds rude sorry....lol
    blowing inside the cpu
fans are always supposed to suck in from the front and blow out at the back

I want to change the computer case of my Dell B110. Can I just buy a case and reinstall the parts?

My dell b110 case is kinda lame, so i wanna get a case with clear sides. is it possible for me to just swap out the mobo, cd and dvd drives, floppy, ect, into the new case? or is there any thing else i have to do? what should i look for when i'm browsing cases? thanks.I want to change the computer case of my Dell B110. Can I just buy a case and reinstall the parts?
Hate to tell you this but unfortunately your stuck with what Dell gave you. In most Dell machines the ports on the back of the machine are part of the system board so when the system board gets replaced so do these ports.

Now I may be wrong on this particular model So I would suggest contacting Dell just in caseI want to change the computer case of my Dell B110. Can I just buy a case and reinstall the parts?
just get a new computer all together. Spending all that time. just get a better computer then the b110. if u play games.. u can build a comp with 2 gigs of memory.. casue i think the b110 only allows 1 gig. =( And if ur not experienced.. i dont recommend it.. You can mess one thing up and the whole system wont work.. and in the end your gunna be like. aw man my comp doesnt work cause i didnt like the case.
Yes but going to be some modding, the dell motherboard doesn't have the same stand offs as a normal atx case so you will need to find a way to make the stand off fit the dell motherboard.
Dell often contracts for weird main boards that have no holes to be screwed through. Lots of models get them to be secured with plastic pinch pins.

Just plain different than the standards that most case makers create their products to work with.

good luck with that! I would use it for the thing it is, and waste my energy on something else. How about modding the Dell case, so that it looks like something different? check the mods in a google.com search!

I do like the way that Dells run in Linux! http://pclinuxos.com
make sure you wear static wrist band
In most cases yes, but Dell has really funky stuff. I'm sure that you can, but I'd contact Dell (888 242-0940) or if your warranty still works (800 822-8965). I'd recommend the second number only if your warranty is still in effect. I'm also sure that if you called a local computer repair shop they'd be able to tell you if you could change it, and they could and should also do it if you don't know what you are doing. They have everything that you would need, along with the knowledge of computers.

If the case is what you desire, so be it. I wouldn't buy the Psu. (Power Supply Unit)

    Buy the case separate.

    Why?

Because this Psu is cheaper, puts out more power, and is reliable as heck!

If you keep this Psu at 118 degrees Fahrenheit, (47.9 Celsius) it can put out 728.8 Watts reliably! (Your body temperature is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit)

    Hi!

Usually someone selling a case and power supply combination has tried them together. You should probably email them to verify this. I imagine that the power supply has enough connectors to accommodate the fans involved.

    Good Luck,

Yes. This power supply every power connector needed, plus extras. You really can't go wrong with that PSU. The case and psu are compatible as well.

First answer is right: canned air is the best solution, available at any hardware or computer store.

Attach the thin tube to the nozzle, and give short bursts of air to blow out dust.

Don't hold the nozzle open too long, as the can will quickly get REAL FRICKIN' cold - few things are as aggravating as a cold-burn.

Also, keeping the nozzle open too long will turn the spray of dry air into a spray of water - and you don't want any of that on your PC components.

Whatever you do, don't use cloth or wipes.

UNPLUG THE COMPUTER FROM THE POWER SOCKET.

And yes, grounding yourself by touching some grounded metal (not the PC, because you just unplugged it!) or getting a grounding wrist band is a good idea, too.

I love it when people shout out a ';sort of'; solution...How do I clean the inside of my computer's casing becase there is alot of dust in it?
open it. If you have a windows computer like mine on the back will be a black knobby thing (mine is shaped like a ';L';) then just try pushing it (sliding really) and the back will pop off so you can clean the inside, but before you touch the inside make sure to touch the metal case, I hear if you dont you can short circuit the computer

Your best bet is a vinyl ';wrap';, custom printed.

The only way to print on aluminum is using a special ink and UV curing, that I know of. And AFAIK, only 3M's special UV printer can can do that, and there aren't that many of them in the world, and using it just for ONE logo... the cost will be prohibitive.

Dells are tool-less cases, meaning you don't need tools to open them.

If you have a tower, look for catches or large buttons in the case at the top rear, or on the sides at the back. Press and swing open the case. Other types, like desktop machines, might have slide-off cases. Just find the catches. Note that it can sometimes take some physical effort to open the case.
if it's a desktop model then there is a button on the left and right sides of the case towards the back. press those buttons and lift the back of the case up.

What does Fry's do with dented/ damaged display computer cases.?

It seems whenever I go to Fry's there is that nice unboxed PC case I want with several scratches from being out on a shelf where it gets smashed into other cases or otherwise damaged. What does Fry's do with these cases they can no longer sell as new. Could I get a good deal on a damaged case? Last time I was at Fry's there was a case with a nice 360mm case fan on the side panel. Would they just sell the side panel by itself considering the case was trashed from being out on the shelf for a few weeks. Are they allowed to do this or does company policy require them to destroy damaged merchandise. What does Fry's do with dented/ damaged display computer cases.?

    Computer gaming cases question?

My PC is pretty old but everything is new on the inside and it's high performance. What I need to know is can any PC go into a gaming case or are there restrictions?Computer gaming cases question?
The only thing that could be a problem is if you try to put an ATX motherboard into a micro ATX case.

Look in your motherboards manual or look it up online to see if your motherboard is ATX or mATX, and buy a case accordingly. There are also some cases that can support both ATX and mATX boards.

Also power supplies use the same sizes, so make sure your power supply is the right size too.

Other than that, should be totally fine.

Hope this helps.Computer gaming cases question?
There are different types of motherboards. Most home built are ATX. There's also BTX, MicroATX and a few other form factors. As long as you buy a case that matches the type of motherboard you have, you'll be fine.
Just make sure your motherboard and power supply can fit in your new case.

Also check if your graphics card and cpu cooler is not to big to fit in the case.
Just size restrictions really. Some motherboards may be too small/big for other cases.

I wanna build my own computer and i am not sure on what case to get. I want a case that will be able to fit what ever parts I eventually choose and will be easy to upgrade. Cooling is one thing i would obviously want it to do well. as for looks i do like the clear side panels and led lights but i have seen simple yet stylish cases that are good so I am not to fussy. Since you did specify the important bits about choosing a case, there are a few suggestions below.

When choosing, bear in mind that some cases come with power supply and some don't. And the decorative leds and illuminated fans are a sort of eye candy that wheighs up at the end of each month in the power bill, without being really necessary; A common fan will do the same job without that extra consumption.

The variety of computer cases is staggering, with hundreds of styles, shapes and sizes available. I recommend that you look closely at the features, Some gorgeous PC cases are nightmares to work with , or are cheaply built.I would recommend a ';tool-less'; case design, which enables you to click%26gt; open,click%26gt; click closed. Most cases and motherboards use the ATX form factor, Standardizing the sizes of the components and all of the power connections. The right case can make working with your system a dream, but picking the wrong one will come back to haunt you. You can find a case plus power supply for less than $50, I recommend you invest a bit more to obtain a case that will last through many upgrades, has a high-quality power supply, and is attractive. It's Critical that your motherboard match the form factor of your case. Be aware of other standards . Check carefully and note the form factor when buying your case. Steel cases weigh more than aluminum ones,, they cost less, and they muffle the noise from components such as hard drives better than aluminum cases do. On the other hand, aluminum boxes tend to be more stylish, and they are certainly easier to carry around.Look for helpful features like a removable motherboard tray, tool-less drive carriers , and multiple fan locations for cooling the system. Some expensive cases don't come with a power supply at all, which lets you choose your own. Power supplies can cause problems--- including random crashes or even component failure---if they are asked to produce more power than they are designed to generate. Reputable manufacturers will typically include a chart of acceptable components. Many PC cases are sold with a pre- installed power supply, check it carefully - your power requirments may exceed the capacity of the pre- installed unit. You may need to purchase a higher-output power supply for your PC. and remember Air Flow, your power supply provides much of the system ventilation and cooling!

How should I face my fans in my computer case? I have a front, back and side area?

Just make sure that they blow out....and not in.How should I face my fans in my computer case? I have a front, back and side area?
Airflow goes through the front and out the back. So the front fan is the intake fan and the exhaust fan is in the back. Most fans have arrows to indicate which way the air flows through the fan. Computer case fans can be installed for either intake or exhaust. So it's generally not a good idea to have the airflow go out the front of the case because it may very well conflict with your PSU fan's airflow. By the way, the side fan is actually the cpu fan that is on top of the heatsink. And if you look at an actual CPU fan you will see why it is hard to install it backwards.

On a side note, I have heard about people putting in a variable exhaust fan that is so powerful that it actually reverses the airflow of the PSU fan, but it's generally somewhere above 3,000 rpms to do that.

Heat is an important issue for computer components. So the direction of the airflow is important as well. How should I face my fans in my computer case? I have a front, back and side area?
Front generally blows in while side and back blow out !!
one flowing in , probably the one on the side , and the other two flowing out. That way you'll have the maximum quantity of air your fans can give you
the airflow should suck in on the front and side and blow out on the rear
You definitely want your back fans blowing out. You may want a front fan but that really depends on how hot your system is. (by the way, AMD says a front fan is not necessary, but Intel highly recommends having one.

  • Which way should my computer case fan blow?

now i got one 120MM fan at rear blowing out (not blowing so hard out tho :/ ). I order 2x 80mm fans and one PCI fan. PCI fan go under my GPU and one of the 80mm fan go front of my case blowing air in. Last fan go to middle of right side of my PC tower, but what way should it blow? in or out?Which way should my computer case fan blow?
For best efficiency you should have the same blowing in as out. To be precise you would need to test the flow rate of each fan, but an approximation will do. A 120 mm fan is about the same as 2 * 80 mm fans. Also, dont forget the PSU fan. I f you cant balance it exactly it is better to blow in rather than out.Which way should my computer case fan blow?
Set it to blow air in, that way you have plenty of cooler air coming in from the front and side, and the rear fan can suck the hot air out so you have a good flow of air through your case.
I'd install the last fan to blow cooler air in.
indeed, to blow cool air in.

Can someone tell me about computer cases?

I'm am doing research on the new computer system I am about to build but I am not to keen on computer cases seeing as I've only bought one ever and that was several years ago. I am putting together a new Intel Core i7 920 CPU with an ASUS board (undecided), most likely a large after-market heatsink, and a large graphics card. I know nothing about computer cases except that most standard ones are meant to house ATX form factor boards. I think someone mentioned Mid-Tower to me once but I'm clueless. What is Mid-Tower? Is that a size or a type or a brand? Is there a Small-Tower and a Large-Tower too? Please, tell me everything you know ! ! ! Thanks :)Can someone tell me about computer cases?
    Okay, sure thing.

ATX is a universal size for computer cases. Most motherboards are ATX size. Therefore you can put the ATX motherboards in any ATX cases (depends on ATX size of motherboard).

There are 3 common ATX sizes

There are Mid Tower ATX which generally range from 7.1 x 18.1 x 17.3 inches

Then there are Micro ATX which generally range from 7.5 x 14 x 14 inches

Then there are Full Tower ATX cases which generally range from 8.1 x 20.6 x 18.6 inches

As you can see Full Tower is the biggest, followed by Mid Tower, then the smallest is Micro.

Full Towers provide excellent space for Multiple Video Cards and Non-stock Coolers.

Mid Towers provide adequate space enough for at most two video cards, and possibly a Non Stock Cooler.

Micro ATX are space savers designed for offices and for schools.

As to picking a case there are several different factors that make a Case good and well worth the money.

Air Flow- Good cases have good airflow in which air goes in thru openings, and goes out in one local direction. That way Air goes in, grabs the heat and flows out, usually thru the back of the case.

Here is a link to show ya.

    http://www.compute-aid.com/images/airflo鈥?/a>

Composite Material- Computer cases must be solid. A Case is a shell, protecting the vital computer parts from being damaged. Plastic is not very durable, but very light. Aluminum is a very common composite material for cases, since its strong and very light. However many of these cases have a thin layer of Aluminum making the cases less durable. There are also steel cases, for very strong and long lasting durability. They tend to be quite heavy though. Most cases nowadays use Steel %26amp; Aluminum alloy to give you the strength of Steel without the heaviness. More expensive Cases include Titanium Composites which are strong, durable, and much lighter than a conventional steel case.

Appeal- You don't want an ugly case of course? Most cases include side panel windows, fancy LED Lights, attractive designs, as well as front trays and USB/ Sounds ports in the front for your convenience.

Sound Insulation- This may be the least important or the most important for some people. Most computers have multiple fans running at high speed to generate good airflow. However they tend to make alot of noise. Thus more expensive models have Insulation in the cases designed to absorb the sound waves.

Some cases I can recommend are

If you are on a budget get the Raidmax Smilodon (Mid Tower)

If you have around 200 dollars to spend, get a Coolermaster Stacker (Full Tower).

If you have 300 dollars to spend get a Coolermaster Cosmos (Full Tower)

Keep in mind the more expensive the case is, then the better it is! All these cases have good airflow. Remember Cases usually last up to 10+ years if the quality and craftsmanship are good. Not to mention very good wiring also.

Hope that Helps. Can someone tell me about computer cases?
My friend ';Ragingrev'; 100% right i agree with him
Most cases are ATX...you shouldnt have to worry much about that because the vast majority of MOBO's are ATX as well.

Mid-tower relates to how tall the case is...mid being usually around 16-20 inches, Full tower= anything larger than that, and then SFF (small form factor ) which is just a smaller case...and then you have your desktop form---which lays sideways..more for the home theater pc.

How much do you want to spend on a case and I will help you find the best bang for the buck?

I like aluminum cases because they are strong and don't weigh as much, I like the Thermaltake brand as well because I know they are high quality cases with a lot of tool-less designs and-innovative features...there are a lot of other great brands too though.

I like full tower, gives you plenty of room for expansion...usually have around 7 PCI bays in the rear, a 120mm fan port at the front (or more than one), and at least one fan port in the back and sometimes on the top. Also, the larger cases will have more space for Optical drives and Hard Drives for future additions to your machine.

so what might you want to spend?

edit: also, don't go for some cheap and flimsy steel case...a lot of times the cheaper cases don't have rolled edges, which means you have tons of thin sharp edges all around where your hands will be...and TRUST ME...they can cut you WIDE OPEN if your hand slips while trying to do something.

Why doesn't My Computer Cases Has That Windows XP Logo on the Front??

Ever since i had my Black Computer Case since 2003

    Here it is: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/鈥?/a>

I notice that the Front of it, it does not Have the

    ';Certified for Windows XP Logo';

This is the Logo that i am talking about:

    http://testou.free.fr/www.microsoft.com/鈥?/a>

Most of the Computers i have seen a few years ago, they would always have that Logo, But on mines, it Does Not...

does yours have the Windows XP Logo??Why doesn't My Computer Cases Has That Windows XP Logo on the Front??
Mine does, but it is an office machine.

The certified for XP logo etc normally comes when the PC is bundled with the Operating System (like XP!)

But if the case is just bought or customised then the logo won't be there - it's ok because it won't affect the compatability! Why doesn't My Computer Cases Has That Windows XP Logo on the Front??
Because this sticker is put on OEM equipment. Your case is aftermarket, so it doesn't have the sticker.

OEMs that sell equipment with Windows preloaded are under contract with Microsoft to apply that sticker.

The sticker is actually a marketing tool, believe it or not. It's purpose is to make unsuspecting users think the hardware is literally ';designed for'; Windows.... therefore running anything else but Windows would destroy it.

Like how a car is ';designed'; to run on gasoline, putting anything but gasoline (like diesel) would outright ruin the car. This is how Microsoft wants you to feel about your computer ';designed'; to run on Microsoft software.

Also, next time you get an ad-catalog in the mail from a PC manufacturer, take a good look at it. Almost every page has a little message: ';[manufacturer] recommends Windows XP Home Premium';. Same color, same size, same font, same typeset. This is another contract obligation set by Microsoft.

Pretty sneaky, huh? It's a Microsoft marketing strategy called FUD, or Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt. Google ';FUD'; to learn more.

Is there a likely correlation between heat buildup in our computer case and the system locking up?

Our system has a Biostar ADM Athlong 64 processor, 2800+, 1.8ghz, k8vga-m motherboard and a Nvida GeForce FX5200 graphics card (256) and a 500 w/plus power supply. Any Idea how best to identify and fix the locking up of this system? Is there a likely correlation between heat buildup in our computer case and the system locking up?
Yes. There is a Correlation between heat building in ur computer and the system locking Up.

Becuase Processors and infact electronic devices can operate only at a Temperature Range. When the Temperature croses the maximum the system gets hanged.

Try to get a bigger cabinet, or try to add some fans to your existing cabinet.

Also make sure that the cables in the cabinet are neatly organised so that they wont block the flow of air.

Make sure that you place ur cabinet in a place where there is some free air.

Still need further clarifications please get back to me.Is there a likely correlation between heat buildup in our computer case and the system locking up?
Does your case have adequate cooling? Does your processor have an adequate heatsink/fan? If your processor gets too hot, it can shut down the system. Does it lock up everytime you turn it on after a certain amount of time? After you run resource-heavy applications?

Does the computer completely shut down, or does it just freeze? Does it happen when you using the same programs?

Just about anything could cause a system to lock up. We need more details.
Could be that. You might also need to get some compressed air and clean out the inside of the case, because dust can build up in the case and slow down or completely stop fans. Crack your case open and turn it on and see if all your fans are running. I've also heard rumors about amd processors separating from the heat sink and fan because of the type of heat glue used, so it could be that too. Good luck!
if the case is getting hot that indicates a short in the power supply or any where the power supply runs to my best guess is that your board is fried but i would have to know more in order to tell u anything 4 sure
yes that could be part of the problem..make sure you have a fan that works and that is capable of cooling your pc down...if you do not have one go to your local pc store to get one...ex staples...run your scan disk and turn on hardware acceleration...and it all else fails run a system restore
yes there is. there is a little fan inside and if it is not working then the curcuit board will get to hot and freeze up or shut down. Try taking the case off and put a small fan blowing at it. If it still is getting too hot you could have a short. If you do you need to take it to a specalist to fix it. I hope you get it takin care of I would be lost without my computer.

Dont mind me saying this but those cases are crap! You can get the CoolerMaster CM690 case for $79 and get a CoolerMaster powersupply prferably 500watts so you dont need to change it again for future upgardes.

    here the link to tigerdirect

And one more thing. You can fit any thing in that case even two GTX260s or 8800GTS which is the biggest card there is. Read the reviews of the case on tigerdirectNeed help on changing computer cases!!!!?
Now. Pretty much what your saying is, you want a whole new COMPUTER and you want to know if this graphic card you want to buy (I would get a better one, the one you want is a high end graphic card, but one of the lowest of it's kind, I would get a Nvidia 9800GTX+, very nice card, and it's only around $50 more, and it's probably x3-x4 better.)

To make sure if your card will fit in your new computer, find the measurements of the graphic card, AND your case. I would also detuct about 1-2 Inches from the total length of the case, because the front of the case is where you enter the RAM. So find out the measurments of your case, and then deduct around 1-2' inches. Then find out the measurements of the graphic card you want. (The 9800GTX+ is 12', so you might need a big case). So just do what I said :) But seriously consider getting a better graphic card, the 9800GTX+ is very good and you will seriously like it a LOT better then the 9800GT, and it's excellent for only $50 more!
